I attended AdBall – a Fashion Fetish Event – last night. It was a bacchanalian gala held to signal the end of Advertising Week 2010. I was generously invited by the men of 5th Element Events (one of our Blog Sponsors) and, with camera in tow, set out to let my hair down after a long week of travel and training.
It was a great night out, one of my most enjoyable in a while. Highlights included watching a man take off his pants for a photo op (yes, it’s true), listening to artist Anjulie, who tore it up for the crowd, the great food, and of course the swag bag! Some photos from the event can be seen below.
Here’s a YouTube video of the talented Anjulie performing her song Rain, which was featured on The Hills.

Another very cool Vimeo find! 1024 created this incredible installation for Etienne de Crecy‘s live show. According to flyfly.com, the content is projected via custom QC software, controlled by the musician MPC in real-time. Very interesting!
Check out more incredible installations from 1024 here.

I just had to share these inspiring images from Feist’s concert last year (I’ve been dying to blog about these for months now!). Created using a few props, acetates and an overhead projector, this is a low cost, low tech way to bring some dynamic imagery to an event. Than you to Laureen G. Pentelescu for giving me authorization to use the still images above.

Could be a very cool idea for a more intimate event!

I’m so happy to say that Gurpreet (from my last post) was gracious enough to share a couple of videos of his Hang (pronounced Hung) performances. Enjoy!

I had the pleasure of listening to one of the most beautiful sounds I’ve heard in a long time tonight. I sat around a long harvest table with 50 other guests at The Indian Rice Factory enjoying course after course of delicious Indian food. As our bellies expanded and we thought our senses had been satiated, out came Gurpreet Chana from behind a glass partition. In his hands, he held an instrument that looked a lot like a wok…some even thought it looked like a space ship. Gurpreet explained that it was, in fact, a Hang. Only 5,000 have been manufactured in the world, he said. This must be something special, I thought. He began to play what sounded like a cross between a bongo and steelpan drums. It was one of the most delightful sounds I’ve ever heard. I was transfixed. And now I’m addicted.
Although nothing close to the talent of Gurpreet Chana, below is a video of someone playing the Hang. Enjoy.

Many know her as the voice behind the catchy new Macbook Air commercial, but Yael Naim, with her magical folksy sound, has so much more to offer. Just take a listen to some of her songs by clicking here. Her rendition of Brittany Spears’ Toxic is incredible! I can see myself spending many a lazy Sunday morning listening to Yael.
Her sound is perfect for ambient dinner music. Consider putting her on your next event play list.
