When my husband and I celebrated our honeymoon, we opted for a month in Europe. One of the towns we visited along the way was a beautiful place called Orvieto. Known to Italians as the “green heart of Italy”, it is lesser known to tourists and is centrally located between Rome and Florence. It’s location, beauty and rich Etruscan history made it a must on our list of places to see.
I recently came across some stunning pictures of a wedding that Artfool (now named Matthew Robbins designs) designed and executed in Orvieto. Having been to this beautiful place, I think they did a wonderful job of capturing the essence of this magical Italian town.

Below is a look back at some of my favorite ready2spark inspiration boards (click on the image to be directed to the blog post)…

When I was in Paris recently, I was tickled by the use of pink…in restaurant and hotel design. And, it was anything but girly. It felt fresh and bold. I like it. You know what I’d love? A male-centric event in pink. Now that’s fresh.

In response to this post, Jaime over at It’s a Jaime Thing challenged me to come up with a raspberry & chocolate inspiration board. Admittedly, I’ve lightened chocolate to a soft mocha – but I find the combination fresh and perfect for the upcoming spring season.

I love the colors in this inspiration board – powder pinks, creams and minty greens. Very soft and delicate. I’ve been so hot to trot on doing a tea party, I thought I’d start with a mood board. Could be my British upbringing, but I love crumpets, wearing flouncy hats and drinking tea with my pinkie in the air…or perhaps just the thought. In any case, I think there are many ways to integrate the feel of a tea party into an event.

Other Thoughts
1. (traditional) Go croquet – if it’s a smaller party, a game of croquet is oh-so-tea party. For rules of croquet, click here.
2. (fun) Hat making – set up long tables and have guests create their own tea party hats. Party Hats Inc. out of San Diego is one such company who can help facilitate this type of team building activity.
3. (nouveau) Picnic style – Lay out blankets, lots of pillows and picnic baskets for each setting…stuff baskets full of goodies like tea cookies, cakes and finger sandwiches and include a thermos for hot tea and a sealable jug for iced tea.
4. (connoisseur) Do a tea tasting. Let guests taste the different intricacies of unique tea blends. Help them understand the value of loose teas, how to brew them and how to best taste them.

I think there’s nothing more beautiful than marrying rustic and refined elements. Below is an inspiration board titled ‘weathered chic’.

I love the idea of doing a tented event on a local farm, using twig tie backs for the fabric draping. Consider natural finishes like sisal, rattan, distressted wood and birch bark. Instead of a contemporary wedding cake, go for a traditional cake with textured buttercream (so it looks handmade) or layer 3 different slabs of cheese on eachother and enjoy gourmet cheeses after dinner.

One of the images featured in my Fab Fascinators story inspired this latest story board. Golds, reds, browns and blacks combine to create a feeling of vintage decadence and luxury…
