larry abel . de-signs

special event blog
I’m in love with this retro-inspired installation for Piaget’s black-and-white lounge at Film Independent’s Spirit Awards by Larry Abel / De-signs. Such a shame that this beautiful decor was dismantled after the event.

plant . a . cup

Perhaps inspired by Alice in Wonderland’s garden?…
Designer Gitta Gschwendtner’s Plant a Cup is a planter in the shape of a giant cup and saucer (18.5″ x 10.5″). This would definitely be a conversation starter.

layers + shadows . smarin design

special events blog
When I came across Smarin Design, I was taken by their mobileshadow product. Layers of suspended ellipses, when backlit, create beautiful textures. This idea would be very easy to replicate.

And their Liquid line…stunning. Furniture made from a translucent material, with a low energy consumption lamp inside, can be used switched on or off. For some reason, it reminds me of the movie Cocoon.

podcast . lessons in social media . part i

Welcome to my very first podcast!

In it, I share my thoughts on social media in the events industry and identify 2 things you should keep in mind before you get started.
Please share your thoughts in the comment section below…

Update (Feb 18/09) . I’ve been speaking with podcasting guru The Produce Picker, who I met through Twitter. He’s been nice enough to share some tips on how I can improve my podcasting (and apparently there are many). Plosives are apparently something I’m going to have to do some reading up on. If this isn’t a perfect example of the power of social media, I don’t know what is. Ray (aka The Produce Picker) has helped me to understand how to improve podcasting. In return, I’m posting about Ray. Now you know about Ray. And you know that Ray is an expert Podcaster and has his own podcasting website. Powerful.
