book review . step into the spotlight

One day my husband came home with a book. He said that one of his clients gave it to him and told him that he just had to read it. My husband loves to read, but he’s not a business book reader. It sat on his shelf for weeks. Every time I walked past it the bright orange cover and retro cartoon caught my attention. One day I picked it up and skimmed through the first few pages. I found myself swept up in the author’s witty and funny take on how to stand out and get noticed…and I couldn’t put it down.

The book is Step into the Spotlight by the talented ex-lawyer, comedian, marketing consultant, keynote speaker and mom, Tsufit. It is an incredibly easy read because Tsufit is in one word: funny. Not to be outdone by her comedic skills are her original insights on topics that have been talked about time and time and time again: Personal branding, Positioning and Publicity. One of my favorite lines in the book (although there are many) is: An expert is not someone who knows something. An expert is someone who is known for knowing something. This book is overflowing with ideas that will make you rethink the way you’re currently marketing yourself or your business.

I find myself going back to this book whenever I need some inspiration. it is a gem and a must-read for any professional who wants original ideas on how to stand out and get noticed.

Sidebar: Please note that all of my recommendations are unbiased. I am in no way being compensated by any of the businesses I feature in my Lara Recommends section. My intent is to share things that inspire me, make my life easier or just plain enjoy. I hope you like them as much as I do.

why I came out of semi-retirement

ead library why I came out of semi retirement

For those of you who read my post below, you’ll be surprised to hear from me so soon. Why, oh why, have I come out of semi-blog retirement? It was none other than the fabulous Elizabeth Anne Designs and the launch of their EAD Library that catapulted me back in front of my laptop to write this post. They have built an extensive list of wedding vendors, organized by category…which will continue to grow over time. Do check it out!

Thank you, ladies, for including Regal Tent Productions is on your list of Rental Vendors!

good bye . farewell . at least for now

good bye . farewell . at least for now

As you may have noticed, my blogging has been pretty much nonexistant of late. Oh how I miss checking my feed stats, reading my comments and checking my blog favs on my reader. But alas, with the big day a short month and a half away…and a month long honeymoon to France, Italy and Greece planned thereafter, blogging is just not making it on the ‘to do’ list. I’ve had to keep a lot of the wedding plans under wraps because far too many of my guests read my blog. So for now, I must say adieu. I WILL be back in September with wedding and honeymoon pics in hand. I encourage you to have a look through the blog archives, visit my friends (see right hand side of the page) and simply stay tuned.

Oh, and I must say ‘thank you’ to Alltop for adding ready2spark to their list of ‘event planning’ blogs. If you haven’t done so already, take a look at this great site where thousands of blogs are categorized and the latest RSS feeds are published.

Ciao for now!
*and, wish me luck!*
