a short ride from the suburbs . part 2 . retail inspiration

Gingerly trodding through the slushy streets, I made my way in and out of the finest shops Yorkville has to offer. Despite great sales and a few dollars burning a hole in my pockets, I was more interested in the window displays. Many trends kept popping up window after window.

Graffiti Art
I absolutely loved Holt Renfrew’s window (top left). Perhaps it was the fact that it was a stark contrast to the dreary day, but the bright, bold, graffiti backdrop was stunning. And both Femme de Carriere (top center) and Fendi (top right) had their own versions of graffiti art using equally bright color pallets.

Black, White and YELLOW
Black, white and (more importantly) yellow. Was everywhere. Enough said. Photo: Club Monaco (bottom center).

Metallics
Slick, shiny metals – as displayed at Zara (bottom left) were in the windows and on the racks. A huge trend for Spring/Summer 2008, think silver, gold, brass, pewter…anything metal.

Oh, and before I forget. The bottom right image – which is actually the window of a Mac Store – piqued my creative interest. I LOVE how they’ve hung 3 screens to create a 3-dimensional backdrop. Stunning.
