inspiration board: weathered chic

I think there’s nothing more beautiful than marrying rustic and refined elements. Below is an inspiration board titled ‘weathered chic’.

(2nd row) – Image via Artfool; Curtain tie by Botanicals Chicago; Image of gourmet cheeses source unknown
(3rd row) – L.A. Burdick birthday cake 6″ $31; Floral design by Daniel Ost; Hanging lanterns by (tbd)
(4th row) – Vintage tractor by South Yeo Farm East; Floral design image via House Martin; Wedding dress by Oscar de la Renta

I love the idea of doing a tented event on a local farm, using twig tie backs for the fabric draping. Consider natural finishes like sisal, rattan, distressted wood and birch bark. Instead of a contemporary wedding cake, go for a traditional cake with textured buttercream (so it looks handmade) or layer 3 different slabs of cheese on eachother and enjoy gourmet cheeses after dinner.

Beautiful - love it! I must confess that I dream of having my reception in an old wooden barn; I envision hanging a variety of crystal chandeliers from the rafters to achieve axactly this kind of look. Now if only I could find a local, rustic barn that doesn't smell like a petting zoo or mildew.Your boards are really lovely; they immediately reminded me of an assignment I did in an advertising class. We called it a "brand book." We tried to capture the mood or personality of a brand with images, words, etc. I loved my professor's advice to incorporate multiple senses - like smells or tactile things that fit the theme as well. It's a shame those things are harder to reproduce - especially in digital form. I wonder what "weathered chic" would smell like or feel like? I certainly suspect it wouldn't smell like farm animals!
