If we thought by the 3rd day of the tradeshow we’d be getting bored, we were in for a great surprise. We took delight in spotting unsuspecting women and men walk around the floor with glittery lips. “Why?”, you say. It was all due to one small booth, manned by glammed-up babes with sparkling lips – otherwise known as Bedazzle My Bonbons.

“Fabulously sinful, seductive and sensual, Bedazzle My Bonbons opens up a world of oral fantasy, like no other chocolate has before. Each mouthful teases the tastebuds and feeds the craving for a deliciously rich and amorous chocolate. Born out of desire, and inspired by all the senses, Bedazzle My Bonbons is the ultimate in chocolate oral pleasure.” (from their website)

Is it hot in here? Ahem. So what gives them their sparkle? The bonbons are individually hand-dipped and coated in a delicious and edible dusting of glitter and cocoa-powder, which creates the “bedazzling” effect.

OK, so having tasted the bonbons myself, I can attest to 3 things. 1) People are amazed by these little chocolates. “Really? I can eat these? Are you sure?”, “Wow – these are so cool!”. They get attention and get people talking. 2) They are made from good quality chocolate, so they taste good. 3) It’s just as fun watching men and women try to scrub the sparkles from their lips as it is eating the bonbons. There is an art to eating them without bedazzling your lips. But wouldn’t that take all the fun out of it?

Bedazzle My Bonbons comes in boxes of 4, 8 or 12. You can choose to go with all solid colours (available for boxes of 4 or 8 only) or go assorted. They have a fantastic list of colors to choose from. Each box is encrusted with rhinestones (in case you need more sparkle).

Box of 4 – $12.00
Box of 8 – $20.00
Box of 12 – $25.00
* bulk orders are available

They also have their Bonbon Babes available for events. A decadent and sparkly modernization of the cigar girl, Bonbon Babes will mingle with guests and pass out bedazzled bonbons, work the crowd with a bejewelled microphone or take pictures with their rhinestone encrusted Polaroid camera.

Bonbon babe: $200.00 each for up to 3 hrs (additional hours $75.00 / hr).
Bonbon picture babe: $350.00 for 3 hrs with unlimited photos & photo mounts (additional hours $125.00 / hr).
Bonbon babe emcee: $250.00 for 3 hrs (additional hours $85.00 / hr).

chateaushop

A big thank you to Di Overton of designers block for introducing me to Chateaushop. I’ve fallen for their fab line of table magnets (note: these are actually stickers) – which transform everyday blah tabletops into themed pieces of art. Imagine the possibilities!

I also love their wall art. And these incredible wall hook decals are divine! How perfect would these be for a tea party-themed event or an Alice in Wonderland-themed event.

…more ideas from the Special Event trade show

Speachless…flabergasted…in awe. I love Roberta Karsch signature wedding linens via Resource One. I’ll let the images speak for themselves.

Using innovative and cutting edge fabrications, Resource One has some of the most beautiful custom designs. Details, details, details. I also love their black tie chair apparel. Why have a naked chair when you can dress them up in couture?

highlights from the show – opening session

I just had to share these photos from the Special Event Show’s Opening General Session. After the speeches and the statutory provision of information, a seniors-only marching band exploded into the room, energizing the crowd (and probably giving out a few heart attacks), leading everyone to the trade show floor. Heaps of confetti floated from the ceiling to the hall floor. Now being from Canada, I’m used to white out conditions…but this was magnificent. I was delighted to discover that there are actually conference facilities that allow planners to explode confetti everywhere! This would never be allowed here in Toronto! As we exited the hall, we chuckled to ourselves as we saw confetti sticking to every conceivable orifice on the departing guests. Even funnier was seeing the confetti continue to fall from the ceiling and the room’s side walls days after this event. My heart goes out to all those who had to clean up the room after we left.

…more highlights from the Special Event Show trade show

Velon was the hottest word on the lips of speakers at the Special Events education track – it was mentioned as the hot new product for 2008. A material that’s been used for years, Velon has been improved so it can be printed in any color and any pattern. Available in the US through Classic Party Rentals, Velon is much more economical that its fabric counterparts, is reusable, is customizable (think patterns, images, logos) and doesn’t have that funky smell that unprinted Velon is known to have. Not to mention, it looked absolutely beautiful.

always a bridesmaid…

…highlights from the Special Event Show gala

gala always a bridesmaid...

As you know, we’re back from the trade show. I fully expected to be heaving a 40 lb trophy back with me from Atlanta…but I’m sorry to say that we came back empty handed. After having been nominated many times for the Gala Awards (I think this was our 5th nomination), I’m bound and determined that next year will be the year. So watch out! In the mean time, I’ll be licking my wounds.

Well, Michelle and I still enjoyed the dinner & dancing after the awards. We met some great people (one of which just had to break out his award at the dinner table) and got our dance on. So all was not lost.

Thanks for your well wishes!
