hot picks of 2007

My goodness! 2007 is coming to a close (9.5 hours and counting down). It was in this year that I started my blog. People often ask me, “how do you find the time?”. I’m a big believer that you (should) make time for what’s important to you and what you love. I get so much joy out of my blog. It has connected me with amazing people around the world, it’s an outlet for me to express my creative side and it’s opened my eyes to a global perspective on design, strategy and events. I’ve had the utter pleasure of reading about, connecting with and trying out some of the most amazing products and as a tribute to this great year, I’ve highlighted my top picks below. Enjoy!

Experiential Events
In the never ending desire to create the bigger “wow!” and connect with guests on an emotional level, companies are clammering to offer heart-stopping experiential events. Below are just a few examples of the new heights event have been pushed to.

it’s that time of year again

scale+etsy+wendygold its that time of year again
If I eat one more Toblerone bar I’m going to burst. So, to keep me in line, I’m seriously eyeing this adorable bathroom scale by wendygold via etsy. And if chocolate isn’t your nemesis, her other designs include candies or hot dogs versus hamburgers (among many others).
$95.00 each.

edible eats

Is your New Year’s Resolution to try new foods – open your mind and mouth to new tastes? Are you constantly searching for the gourmet treat that will have everyone at your table gasping (or gagging)? edible is the complete resource for everything…well…uh…unique? Perfect for the insectivore, carnivore or herbivore who’s tired of the same old same old. Fill your cart with salted Mopani Worms from South Africa or thai green Crocodile curry or even giant (oh, yes, they’re giant) toasted Leafcutter Ants.

3. A pure grain vodka with a suspended (and edible) scorpion inside. Said to improve libido (as long as you don’t mind scorpion breath). £16.00 GBP per 25 CL bottle or £8.50 GBP for a 7 CL mini.

zen event

yoga zen event
Inspired by one of my gifts from Santa, I wanted to highlight a product & lifestyle brand guaranteed to make every event planner’s life easier…or at least more comfortable – Lululemon Athletica. With humble beginnings in small town Vancouver that you can read about here, Lululemon Athletica has become synonymous with Yoga lifestyle throughout Canada, US, Australia & Japan. Every single product in their line is so well thought out it really does blow your mind. So what does Yoga lifestyle have to do with event planning lifestyle? Well, comfort & functionality.

I’m in love with my Reverse Groove Pants. They’re fully reversible, so I get a fun patterned band on the one side and a solid black on the other. Basically you get 2 pants in one – how perfect would this be for the travelling planner! There’s also a little flat pocket in the pants where you can store a small item that you need to keep on hand.

I also adore my Jet Pullover. Get this – it has a ponytail pocket in the hood, cuffins to keep your hands warm (the sleeves fold over to create mittens for cold days), a zipper sleeve so that your zipper doesn’t rub up against your skin, and a zip pocket on the back to store an emergency hair elastic.

So for those days that you’re running around putting chair covers on Chiavaris and moving around cruiser tables, think Lululemon. Bring a little zen to your next event.
